As the sun rises over Lexington, the light streams through the eastern window of Coop. The light reaches across the room, stretching out on the floor. In that moment, there is a stillness in the light. That moment is shattered as the class block approaches and students rush to get their morning coffee fix. There is a flurry of activity as I am no longer the only person sitting at the tables. The line reaches around the tables as students grumble about the wait. Still other students and professors hurry through the space, late for class and trying to keep away from the cold.
Over the Feb break, i went to Everglades National Park for a sea kayaking trip with W&L Outing Club. The trip let us embraced and appreciate the true wilderness and we learned to survive on an isolated island. Over the trip, we followed the "Leave no waste" rule from permaculture, which i think is really interesting. We used biodegradable dish washing liquid and other environmentally friendly products when we were on the island and we picked up all the trashes (from us and from other people who left trash and didn't pick them up after) Human leaves footprint wherever they go. What we can do to make our footprints sustainable is to be conscious about the waste we are making and recycle them. It is the same in permaculture design. When we try to build things and make progresses, we have to be conscious of our actions. We had campfire every night and everyone sit in a circle (and we burn the burnable trash such as orange peels and tissues to leave no waste). We also use...
First, this is written so well. You already are doing a really nice job of capturing the atmosphere around you. I feel as if I am passing through coop, as I have done so many times before, but this time I notice so much more around me. The only sense I am missing is the smell.
ReplyDeleteThe picture ties in well with the post. The light and shadows are perfectly placed. And I really enjoy the lack of focus in the foreground becoming more focused in the distance. The outline of the shadow shows this exceptionally well.
Oh please teach me how to write like this haha. Beautifully-written with a beautiful picture with it. Something about the idea of a "coffee fix" really strikes me, with students impatiently waiting for something that they shouldn't have this "need" for. Love your perspective on things and can't wait to see more!
